
TGB Global: To Give Back
True progress only comes about by embracing change and leaning into the willingness to learn and adapt. Of life’s constant journey to move forwards and upwards, the wise and ancient Greek philosopher, Socrates, said: “The secret of change is to focus all your energy not on fighting the old, but on building the new.” At TGB, we are always learning about our world and open to making improvements, welcoming transitions, even when difficult decisions need to be made. And so, it is with great excitement that we can now reveal the next steps of our ever-developing journey.
Today, we move forward. Our beloved That Gorilla Brand has grown into TGB Global, our platform To Give Back, encompassing a more fulfilling and empowering future of giving and making a difference.
When we launched That Gorilla Brand, our aim was to do good and give back to the Ugandan communities living alongside the mountain gorilla habitats and, in turn, help protect and preserve the scant populations of mountain gorillas. We raised significant donations for The Gorilla Organization through the sales of our eponymous range of fashionable activewear. We curated marathon events and community runs to fundraise for grassroots community projects. These substantial donations and funds raised were channelled directly into community-led initiatives, such as installing clean water and sanitation systems, implementing solar energy and building and equipping local schools. These efforts have led to, and continue to be, a direct positive impact for around 30,000 people. If we also take into account the children, parents and relatives of every family, along with the wider local community, the indirect benefits of these projects extend to an additional 100,000 or more people.
As we navigated our journey of contribution, we gained an important personal insight: our primary focus lies in being of service to communities around the world. The foundation of everything we do is grounded in helping others, and we realised we wanted our positive impact to reach as far and wide as possible. With this new clarity, we take the opportunity to redefine our path and reinforce our strengths to be more aligned with our true being. We are stripping back to our core and simplifying our operations - while we are sad about letting go of the fashion side of our vision, we are excited at being able to wholly concentrate on expanding our partnerships and collaborations to extend positive impact further afield. At this juncture, our direction shifts, but our heart remains concentrated on our purpose: to do good and give back. Our remodelled TGB Global centres on our core belief: To Give Back.
TGB Global is an adventure-led fundraising venture that will give us greater flexibility in our purpose and allow us to reach more people with how and where we give back. Our bespoke adventures foster kinship within the community they bring together, reshaping participation into impactful outcomes for our planet and for people around the world. As has always been our way of working, the substantial funds raised from each adventure will be directed straight into buildable projects for communities who need them. TGB Global is a driving force for giving back and spreading kindness, change and progress.
